A new google doodle game appeared on October 24, 2024. This doodle is titled, “The Rise of the Half Moon”. The doodle celebrates October’s last half moon and is highly interactive.

In this doodle, you compete against the half moon in a series of card games. To reach the moon, you need to win three games consecutively and once you do, you are awarded a special card that can aid you in future rounds against the half moon.

The gameplay may be confusing to understand at first however through repetition, it gets much easier to understand. The cards themselves are all one cycle of the lunar cycle and to win, you have to match these cards up in order to gain points.

If you match cards that are the same such as two new moons, this is called a phase pair. A phase pair gets you one point. You can also attach one card to a card that the half moon placed. For example, if the half moon placed a full moon card, you can place a full moon card and get the point for it being a phase pair. If you match up cards that are a new moon and full moon, then that is considered a full moon pair which gets you two points. There are also the lunar cycles in which you match three cards that are in order of the lunar cycle to get three points. It may be hard to remember how the lunar cycle goes so there is a full illustration of the lunar cycle near the bottom of the doodle to assist the player.

Once you win, you are awarded a card and there are up to four cards to be collected. Once collected, you can use it to help you win against the half moon in levels such as 7 or 9.

This doodle is very interactive and the design of the moon itself is very appealing. The visuals and the gameplay itself is very beautiful along with the music. I highly recommend people to try this Google Doodle out!
