For video game fans that enjoy RPG games, comical cutscenes, and character customization, Miitopia is a perfect game.
Miitopia is available on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS and depending on your location, the cost range would vary from $50 to $60 which is rather expensive. However, there are places such as GameStop or eBay where Miitopia is sold for $40 and less depending on if it is pre-owned or not. Although the cost may be expensive, Miitopia is an enjoyable game that can be replayed multiple times.
So what is Miitopia exactly? The game focuses heavily on role-playing and character customization with characters such as the Dark Lord, NPCs, guards, and party members who are available to be altered. The game also has a turn-based attack system which gives the game a fighting aspect.
In character customization, you are able to assign a Mii a job which can range from popstar, chef, cleric, warrior, and more. You are also able to assign them a personality such as cool, airheaded, or energetic which provides useful quirks during battle.
Furthermore, certain jobs give specific clothing and weapons according to that job. For example, if a party member was assigned the warrior role, then they would ask you to buy themselves armor and a sword. There are different types of armor and swords, each of them more stronger than the last.
The only Mii that you can really control is the Mii you make in the beginning of the game who acts like the hero. You are able to customize your party members, however, they are more sentient and act on their own.
The party members are able to grow their relationships with the other Miis through battles, outings, and cutscenes. Outing tickets are obtained sometimes randomly or from NPCs and it helps level up a Mii’s relationship with another very quickly. Not only that, there is also a horse that later joins your party and they're fully customizable.
Party members are able to grow their relationship with the horse the same way they do with the other Miis. The horse provides back-up in battles and has several adorable cutscenes.
The main story of Miitopia revolves around your Mii trying to defeat the Dark Lord who is stealing the faces of the Miis. These stolen faces are then transplanted onto monsters such as nose rock, poison butterfly, or pookie mouse.
Throughout the game, you explore different routes, occasionally stumbling across treasure chests that give you gold, clothing, or weapons. When you fight monsters, they usually drop grub which can be fed later to your party members to increase their stats. In every route, you eventually find an Inn which is like a rest-point.
In the Inn, you are able to put two party members together to increase their relationship level. Each time two party members level up in their relationship, they learn valuable skills such as warning or sacrifice which are useful in battle.
Miitopia is a comical yet practical game that gives a wide variety of customization that makes the game more interesting. It’s a perfect game to those who enjoy battling monsters yet don’t want anything too hard-core.
