As of November 2nd, 2024, the beloved and fan-favorite of all Fortnite seasons has finally returned. Chapter 2: Season 2, officially made its mark and impacted the gaming community. However, this year, Fortnite has flipped the script and given us a remake of the faithful Chapter 2 island after four years. With the re-release of another classic season, Epic Games has been critically taking the feedback of players to the utmost extent. Alongside the original season and feelings of nostalgia, Chapter 2: Season 2 wishes to bring back that feeling of warmth and fun better than ever. They have done this by implementing new game mechanics, the old map, and new battle pass rewards that show off the once popular character skins. This includes Midas, TnTina, and Meowscles. Content creators, pro-players, and even the average gamers are finally able to enjoy Fortnite once again in its second prime.
The Map and Game Mechanics
Alongside the old Chapter 2 map being brought back for all new and OG players to enjoy, Epic Games has made some new “Remix” changes to the island. These features include popular rappers or singers from real life such as Snoop Dogg and Ice Spice. Each of the rappers also get to have their own in-game POIs, and mythic weapons. Previously in Chapter 2: Season 2, you had to fight the in-game bosses in order to get the mythic weapons. However, in place of those previous bosses, Midas is replaced by Snoop Dogg and his Doggpound, while Ice Spice replaces Skye in her own new shark-themed palace. With that being said, many people are unhappy as they claim that the changes to the locations and having too many collaborations have officially ruined the feeling of the original Chapter 2: Season 2.
Unlike the original Fortnite season, there are massive collabs to the remix season. However, the Fortnite community is still thriving off of the Chapter 2: Season 2 map. A lot of the fan-favorite locations remain unchanged. That being Retail Row, Lazy Lakes, Pleasant Park, Steamy Stacks, and Slurpy Swamp. Certain game mechanics and items are also back such as the original ARs, with pumps and tactical shotguns. While there are many positives added to the season, a major complaint is the lack of healing items in this season as most new players don't realize that there were originally only three healing items at the time. This covers mini shields, big pots, and chug jugs. Fishing for heals and relying on slurp barrels is now a mandatory action. All things considered, Epic Games still wishes to give us a taste of the previous seasons, just like they did last year with the OG season. By revamping the Chapter 2: Season 2 map to its fullest extent and giving us new map changes, their player base is higher than ever.
Controversy and Collabs
It is no hidden surprise that over the years, Fortnite has permanently changed the course of their story line, universe, and altered their simple battle royale theme forever by implementing the use of collabs into their game. Fortnite was released seven years ago, all the way back in 2017. It started off as nothing more than a simple and fun battle royale game mode that you could have a great time with your friends. But then everything changed.
Big time streamers like Ninja, DrLupo, and The Myth started playing, increasing the game's overall recognition. Sooner or later, the game skyrocketed in players across everywhere on the internet. Montages and fun battle royale challenge videos were the hottest things to watch on YouTube at the moment. The game increasingly brought in more people to the community, and the only thing that kids in school could talk about was Fortnite. People couldn't wait until they got back home to play Fortnite. However, with popularity came money too. The bigger that Fortnite got, the bigger the possibility to make money. As new seasons started improving the game and story, it meant that the creative direction of everything would go in an entirely different direction.
Fortnite started releasing Marvel collabs with Thanos, introducing football NFL skins, and having singers like Marshmello added into the game. While these changes were fine and necessary for the moment, Epic Games and its creative team started to go overboard, releasing entire seasons that were based on the concept of either Star Wars or Marvel collabs. Therefore this new philosophy of introducing real-life skins and seasons based on marketing took over, like in the new Remix season. This controversy has taken over the internet and all social media platforms as people, till this day, continue to dispute over Epic Games' decisions.
Overview
Overall, while there may be an increasing amount of controversy whenever Fortnite is brought up, the majority of its fanbase still enjoys the game at heart. Some people may miss the OG and simple feeling of Fortnight’s old days, but there are still going to be those who will play and have fun, even if Epic’s decisions aren't the best or critical. In every video-game and fanbase, there are always going to be both positive and negative opinions no matter what. All things considered, the game still features a variety of new and fun innovations this season that you should go check out, regardless of the controversy or collabs.
