During the summer, I got a new MacBook and I decided to play as many dating games as possible. My first dating game was called A Date with Death, created by Two and a Half Studios. “A Date with Death is a supernatural romance chat simulator visual novel about the week-long bet you enter against the Grim Reaper to attempt to keep your soul” (Itch.io).
This game is very slow paced and has a play time of three hours (or at least how long it took me). Most of the interactions with him are spent through a video call and/or texting in a chat room that was randomly installed in your computer one day, and you can't delete it. At the moment, there is no voice acting, but they are currently working to implement that with my favorite voice actor, Jonah Scott. So far I have completed two out of the five endings of the game!
One thing that really stood out to me when I first played the game was of course, the love interest, Grim. His personality is very charming (although a bit gullible) and I really like his style, since it's a complete contrast to mine. I also love how we can customize ourselves and our room because you usually don't get the option to personify your room in these games, so it's great that I have the creative liberty to do so. There is also a DLC available on Steam/itch.io that I bought, which allows for more customization and even a secret ending.
Overall, I would rate this game a 9.5/10. The art is gorgeous and the story is pretty creative. This game was a good introduction to dating games and I hope you enjoy reading these reviews as much as I do playing these games. Next up: Our life Beginning & Always.
